My favorite vacation

It is said that vacations are for relaxing and regenerating the mind and body; yeah right. Tell that to my body and soul after a six day trip to the San Francisco,CA area and riding the hill ridden streets without Karl Malden and Michael Douglas in tow. When were not cruising the streets and bike paths, we were hiking or carrying our bikes up copious amounts of steep steps to get to the top of Bernal Heights for nighttime views of the city. I was staying in the Potrero Hill neighborhood, which is east of the Mission District, and just a downhill bicycle ride to most anywhere in the city. Whether it was going to pubs for some of the West Coast best ales or listening to music or just chilling in coffee houses or bookstores, I had the best vacation I have had in a very long time. Coupled with not having to drive a car but rather ride the bicycle or take the bike on BART or Caltrain.

The daytime temperatures were not much above the 70's the whole trip and glad I layered my clothing. Bay Area weather can change from one part of the city to the next. For those wishing or planning this kind of trip, train on as many hills as you can here locally and you will have not much trouble.

My last trip to the Bay Area (july 2002) was likewise resplendid, though I didn't have the chance to cycle. BART is an inspiration as how all municipalities should function if not aspire.
